"Adopting a small monthly payment scheme in response to a huge group of bots"
Elon Musk, CEO of the social network service "X" (formerly Twitter), said he plans to charge users of X monthly fees. It also said that there are about 550 million users of X.
Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX along with X, expressed this in a real-time streaming conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the 18th (local time), CNBC reported. Musk said at the meeting that he was "going toward adopting a small monthly payment method for the use of the X system" to counter the "vastarms of bots."
Musk reiterated his view that converting users to paid subscribers would be cumbersome and expensive to distribute bots on X. Musk, however, did not mention how much he would charge users, or what features would or would not be included in the lowest-level payment. It also said that the number of monthly users reaches 550 million, and they produce 100 million to 200 million posts a day.
In May last year, before it was acquired by Musk, Twitter said that the average daily active usage that could be monetized reached 229 million. X still offers paid services. Users who pay can display a blue subscriber badge next to their names, and their posts are displayed in preference to other users' feeds. Meanwhile, the conversation between Musk and Prime Minister Netanyahu focused on regulations on AI along with the theoretical risks of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
However, CNBC reported that Musk also used this position to refute the public perception that X tolerates hate speech (public discrimination and hate speech against certain groups) and anti-Semitism.
This is because the conversation took place after civil rights groups criticized Musk extensively for amplifying prejudice, including anti-Semitism-related accounts, content and conspiracies.
